What is Chiropractic and How Dr. McLeod Practices

Dr. McLeod works diligently to stay on top of the research and consistently gain new knowledge in the realm of healing. She provides individualized care, specific to your needs and offers a variety of services based on what ailments you present with.

Chiropractors are physicians whom specialize in the neuro-musculoskeletal system. Chiropractic care provides a hands-on, drug-free approach to correcting imbalances in the body. Chiropractors examine, diagnose and treat countless ailments. They are also trained to identify conditions which may need to be assessed by another specialist and will readily refer the patient to one.

The primary treatment a chiropractor delivers is known as “spinal manipulation”. The spine consists of segments of bone called vertebrae, located from your pelvis and low back up to the base of your skull. The small motions of the individual vertebrae make up the motion of the spine as a whole. This means when even just one vertebrae loses a degree of its normal motion, it affects the entire spine.

Chiropractic restores normal motion to all joints throughout the body via manipulation. There are many ways to manipulate, or adjust, the spine and other joints in the body. Specific stretching, traditional chiropractic adjustments and instrument assisted adjustments are all techniques Dr. McLeod will discuss with you during your consultation.

Applied Kinesiology

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a non-invasive technique for diagnosing, evaluating and treating a variety of conditions throughout the body. AK practitioners are able to evaluate different bodily systems by contacting various reflex points. AK uses gentle muscle testing to tap into the nervous system which then allows the practitioner to see how the body is functioning. Using the nervous system as an indicator of whole body functioning is possible because the nervous system reaches every part of your body; including muscles, joints, and organs.

Patients love AK because they are able to “feel” when they have a weakness in the body that needs to be addressed and the strength that returns when the problem is resolved. AK allows the practitioner to ‘pick-up’ subtle, subclinical imbalances which may not be detectable by other means. This technique goes a long way in providing preventative care; effectively finding the ‘problem’ before it becomes a problem.

Nutritional Guidance

Dr. McLeod received her Master’s in Applied Clinical Nutrition. She is uniquely trained to blend nutritional advice with chiropractic treatments, bringing further balance to her patients health regime.

It is very difficult to properly fuel your body with the limited nutrients available in the typical American diet. Without the necessary ‘building blocks’, vitamins, minerals etc., the body won’t be able to repir and heal itself. Through dietary changes and supplementation, we are able to give your body the nutritional support it needs for you to feel your best.

Essential Oils

Dr. McLeod may use essential oils to enhance healing. Either through inhalation, topical application and ingesting oils, you receive the amazing benefits of the plants they are extracted from.

Reiki

Dr. McLeod is level 1 Usui Reiki certified. Reiki is a hands-on energy healing technique in which the practitioner channels energy through their hands to balance out the patients mind and body through their energy system.

While Dr. McLeod is not currently doing full Reiki sessions, she does incorporate Reiki energy into the chiropractic treatments.
